Cottage holiday in Northumberland

The perfect cottage base to discover Northumberland with friends and family.

Explore Hadrian’s Wall and walk in wild, and stunningly beautiful landscapes.

Venture to the local award-winning market towns and partake in some of the best eating in the UK.

Peacefully nestled in the quiet Northumbrian village of Wall, this traditional, detached, stone cottage sleeps four people and is well equipped for a comfortable stay. It has been tastefully renovated in a cottage style, charming and cosy with exposed beams, wood burner and an original stone feature wall. The downstairs areas are spacious and bright for sociable meals with friends and family, seating for up to six people and space to plan your activities. The bedrooms and family bathroom are set in the roof space under original beams. Deep-sprung mattresses and blackout blinds ensure comfortable and relaxing night sleeps. A small third room upstairs for your teens to chill-ax in their own space or watch DVDs, set up office or room to put a travel cot in.

Wall is so named because of its close proximity to Hadrian’s Wall and there may well be stones from the Wall in many of the historic buildings within the village. Wall Fell rises to the East of the village, near the cottage -always a good spot to listen to birdsong, watch the buzzards soaring or search for the Old Iron-Age Fort remains. In 1991, Wall was designated a Conservation area and recognised as an area of special architectural and historic interest. Around the village centre are several Bastle Houses; fortified farmhouses built in the times of the Reivers in the 17th and 18th Centuries. The old village “pant” or water pump remains and the beautiful stone cross with listed War Memorial.

The location is great for exploring the unspoilt Northumbrian countryside, near to Hadrian’s Wall, or days out to the beautiful coastline, historic castles, churches and the local area. The town of Hexham is 3 miles away with its historic Abbey and Roman Crypt, Hexham Old Gaol and vibrant Farmers’ Markets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. Wall village boasts the Scandinavian Restaurant Hjem; Northumberland’s first Michelin Star Restaurant and bar which is in walkable distance from the cottage.

We would love to welcome you to Church Cottage in Wall for a memorable holiday in Northumberland.
